Apparentinvited Skin Consults

Your questions

Questions that make a consultation more useful

Ask who will do the treatment, what it involves and what happens after. A provider should be glad to answer.

Questions that tell you a lot

How a provider answers matters as much as what they say.

  • Who performs this, and what is their license?
  • How were they trained for this treatment?
  • What device or product is it, specifically?
  • What does a series involve?
  • What aftercare do I need?
  • What happens if something goes wrong?
  • What is the total cost before I start?

What a provider will want to know

Expect questions about your health, so have the answers ready:

  • Medical conditions and recent illnesses.
  • Prescription medications, supplements and topical products.
  • Allergies and sensitivities.
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding.
  • Previous cosmetic treatments.

Then add your own list of questions, such as who will perform the treatment and what the total cost will be. A licensed provider uses this information to decide what is suitable for you.

When to pause

A consultation should feel like an exchange of information. If it feels like a sales pitch, take a step back.

Watch for pressure to commit on the spot, a treatment offered with no consultation, unclear answers about who does the work, or a reluctance to write down the total cost. Each of these is a reason to wait. To look up a license, search the website of the relevant California state licensing board by the person's name.
